چکیده

Greenwich and Jahr-Schaffrath (1995) introduced an index Cpp, a simple transformation of the index C∗ pm, which provides an uncontaminated separation between information concerning the process accuracy and process precision. Unfortunately, the index Cpp inconsistently measures process capability in many cases and thus reflects process potential and performance inaccurately. In this paper, we consider a generalization, C′′ pp, to handle processes with asymmetric tolerances. The generalization is shown to be superior to the original index Cpp. In addition, we investigate the statistical properties of a natural estimator of C′′ pp assuming the process is normally distributed.

Process Yield Index and Asymmetric Tolerances

Process yield has been an essential criterion used for manufacturing industries in business management. Quality managers and engineers involved in factories require capability analyses to access process yields, particularly, for processes with a very low fraction of defectives. It is noted that the accuracy of process yield is important; as it is one of major considerations for supplier selecti...

Measuring PPM Non-conformities for Processes with Asymmetric Tolerances

Process yield has been the most basic and common criterion used in the manufacturing industry for evaluating process capability. The Cpk index has been used widely in the manufacturing industry. In this note, we considered a generalization of Cpk index which handles processes involving a target T with asymmetric tolerances. Particularly, we established a formula for measuring the PPM non-confor...

Assessing process performance with incapability index based on fuzzy critical value

Process capability indices are considered as an important concept in statistical quality control. They have been widely used in the manufacturing industry to provide numerical measures on process performance. Moreover, some incapability indices have been introduced to account the process performance. In this paper, we focus on the one proposed by Chen ~cite{Che:Stat}. In today's modern world, a...

A generalization of Clements' method for non-normal Pearsonian processes with asymmetric tolerances

For non-normal Pearsonian processes, Clements proposed a method for calculating estimators of the two basic process capability indices Cp and Cpk. Pearn and Kotz applied Clements' method to obtain estimators for the other two more advanced process capability indices Cpm and Cpmk. Their considerations on those indices, however, are restricted to processes with symmetric tolerances. Recently, Pea...

Implications and inference

The process capability index Cpk has been widely used in the manufacturing industry to provide numerical measures on process performance. Since Cpk is a yield-based index which is independent of the target T, it fails to account for process centering with symmetric tolerances, and presents an even greater problem with asymmetric tolerances. Pearn and Chen (1998) considered a new generalization ...
